My cousin Susie (actually my mom’s cousin, but that’s being picky) sent me some treasures the other day.
Here is one of my favorite people, my maternal Grandmother, in a color or tinted photo I’ve never seen before.
Then there were some newspaper clippings. In the first one, Grandpa is in a photo I’ve shared on here before, but it’s attached to a little story in the “Looking Back” section of the Kalamazoo Gazette. The photo is of my grandfather, who shared the image and the story.
The next clipping is a mention of my grandparents’ 65th wedding anniversary in the same newspaper (not the same issue).
And, finally, this clipping is an announcement for the senior community where my grandparents lived during their last few years.
These are precious treasures indeed! How thoughtful of your cousin to send them to you. I love that first photo of your grandmother. She and your grandfather must have had quite a love story.
Very perceptive, Liz. Yes, they were very in love to the very end.
🙂
Wonderful photos and clippings. What a gift! So did you attend their 65th wedding anniversary celebration? I love how they paired an old photograph with a recent one. Amazing to see both how much they’ve changed and how much they still look the same.
I did not. I missed a lot of events, living too far away from Kalamazoo. 😦
😦
Treats indeed!
Thanks, Merril!
How precious!
Very precious!
You certainly did get some sweet treats from your cousin 🙂 I’m with Amy loving the paired photo newspaper clipping. Edna’s 1929 photo is wonderful too!
I agree. I love them all. That photo of Grandma from the time of her high school graduation is very special.
A lovely main portrait
Thank you, Derrick!
Luanne, these are the most wonderful ones from your cousin – thank goodness she sent them to you!
No wonder you miss them every day. The one of your grandmother that’s been tinted makes me want to get that done for some of mine, but then I think no one really to pass on to. Sigh.
Regardless, this is a marvelous post.
I am working on writing a post for this coming week about that issue–not having someone to pass our treasures onto. In this age of all kinds of conveniences, it seems silly that everything is geared toward transience and not to a good way to hang onto photos and stories. After all, this is history, even if there are no descendants, you know?
You and I are personal historians, Luanne.
We sure are!
It’s so lovely when others share
I agree. And I don’t understand when people hold their family history so closely that they don’t want to share.
Love that contemplative pic of your Grandmother. She seems so “today”
I know! That was when she graduated from high school!
You must enjoy the resemblance.
Since I’ve begun sharing family mementos, there has been such a great response from my mom and her sisters. Gets ya in the feels. That tinted photo is a gem!
So wonderful to get that response from family!! You’re very blessed!
I agree about that photo of Grandma. I really love it.
These photos/articles are wonderful treasures, Luanne. Married 65 years! Fantastic! I love your history project. I have a small version of my own, but yours is impressive!
Thank you so much, Patti! They had a long love story!
Do you ever share any of your history project on your blog? I’ve never noticed you doing that, but maybe you are trying to keep to the motif you have going!
