Although this photo is a bit blurry because of the dog jumping, it is a photo of my mom in front of her house on Burdick Street with the family dog. I can see the Richard DeKorn brick house down at the next corner and a car in front of it. I wonder what year that car is or how old Mom is here. Is the dog Sandy or a dog that preceded Sandy? I only ask because I knew Sandy, and when I was very young, was bit by that @#%^ dog. (I love dogs anyway).
Here are a few photos (early 1940s) of my mother, Janet Zuidweg, with her little sister, Alice Zuidweg. The first one seems to be taken at a park that is riverside or creekside.
The second photo shows the girls at their grandparents’ (Charles and Clara Mulder) farm in Caledonia, Michigan.
In this one, the girls seem to be near a back door. Is this at the farm or elsewhere? Mom! Uncle Don! Help!
Love Mom’s saggy socks in this last one!
P.S. to Mom: maybe you can show this post to Aunt Alice!
Back of gas station, coal bin and ladies restroom. Don

Of course, that makes sense! Thanks! So the back of Grandpa’s gas station at the corner of Burdick and Balch.
What precious photos!
I know! 🙂
how can I send you a photo?
I showed my husband and he thinks the car might be mid to late 40’s model, not a Ford, maybe Chevy, Plymouth something like. Always love seeing your family photo’s 🙂
I emailed the photo to you, Luanne
Got it! I’ll write back soon, but I think you are right!
Thanks, Sharon! Well, that is a rule out, I guess, because if it had been something like 1950 or 51 it would be more definitive, but this way she still could be any age as that would be maybe 10-whenever.
Such sweet photos! I love the blurry dog. 🙂
Thank you, Amy! Me too. I just want to know if it’s that biter Sandy haha.
Who is hiding a candy in the cheek?
Hahaha, she still loves her candy!!!
love the relationship between the two sisters, x
Yes, they look very sweet together!
The last picture reminds me of elastic garters
LOL ok!!! Have a good weekend, Derrick!
It is probably Milham Park. It came to mind immediately. Also, I agree with Don — I knew that was the back of the gas station. I thinki was 10 in te one picture.
Mary (above) sent me a pic of her family at Milham Park and it looks the same. Also, it came to my mind, too, but I didn’t want to say so and plant the idea hahahaha. I am glad to know that you both knew where it is! It helps that you were there ;). Ten with the dog? OK! It must have been a predecessor to Sandy then.
Pictures such as these fascinate me. My sister and I were NEVER allowed to touch each other. “Don’t touch your golden sister!” Why “golden”? I have no idea, but picking her up and lugging her around, or having her sit in my lap was simply unthinkable. Your mum was very fortunate.
The photos of the sisters are wonderful. I especially like the last photo. Your mother almost looks like she was taken by surprise by the photographer.
Abfab, Luanne! My favorite was hard to choose, but I think I’ll go with girls at the park.
Thanks so much for sharing these!
I like that one a lot, too! Thanks, Sheila. Still sending you hugs for your recovery!
Still thanking you for all the hugs!!
Many more coming at you!
